The Fresno Grizzlies avoided a soggy start during their home opener Friday evening.  The rain let up just before game time.  The Grizzlies wound up beating the Tacoma Rainiers 6-1 without any delays.

The temperamental weather didn't discourage fans like Maile Glover from coming out.

“I wanted to get out of the house.  I’ve been inside all day.  We’ve got to support the Grizzlies,” said Maile Glover, a Grizzlies fan.

About 400 folks tied to Clovis’ Babe Ruth league were not going to let weather wash away this opportunity.

“I think if any of these kids here tonight can watch games like this they can learn from these players,” said Kevin Sumpter, President of Clovis Babe Ruth.

Rasean Jones was glad the rain didn't prevent him from logging some hours toward a paycheck.

“I'm still in high school, so in order to get a car and stuff I need, this job is really important to me,” said Rasean Jones, a Fresno Grizzlies employee.

“Second Baseman Charlie Culberson is excited to get his first year in Fresno underway.

“It's always nice to play in front of a good crowd and people who love baseball.  It makes the days and the season go by that much better,” said Charlie Culberson, Grizzlies 2B.

There are some new attractions this season at Chukchansi Park.  Wold Amusements struck a deal to operate a carnival for all 72 games.  It features a Ferris wheel, a roller coaster and bumper cars.

“It's real exciting.  We're local from Hanford.  This gives us an opportunity to be part of the community and be here for the summer.  Usually we're gone in Nevada so we actually get to be home this summer,” said Jason Wold, owner of Wold Amusements.

The Grizzlies will host Tacoma Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
