Local Moms Defend Ann Romney

It was the slam on Ann Romney, heard round the world.

“Guess what, his wife has never actually worked a day in her life,” said Hilary Rosen on CNN Wednesday night.

Rosen, a democratic strategist, commented about Romney not having a pulse on economic challenges and it felt like a slap in the face to many stay at home moms.  The issue blew up on social media.  Romney even defended herself on twitter, saying she "made a choice to stay at home and raise five boys."

Local mothers are outraged.  Both stay-at-home and working moms are speaking out in support of those who raise children fulltime.

“I've been to school; I went to college.  I chose to stay at home with my children, but it doesn't mean we know any less than the people who go to work,” said Shelbi Carlon of Fresno.

“Somebody who says a stay-at-home mom is not a working mom doesn't have kids or has not stayed home with them alone.  Because stay-at-home moms work a lot harder than working moms do,” said Michaelle Campbell, a working mom.

Even the White House responded to the controversy.

“[Rosen] is a democratic strategist… I don't know how to access her overall relationship with people here in the White House,” said the White House press secretary.

Thursday Rosen said she's sorry for her comment.

“I apologize.  Working moms, stay at home moms, they're both extremely hard jobs.  I know, I've shared them both,” said Rosen.

But the damage is already done.
