Wednesday night, the Merced Union High School District carried a motion to cut 18 school bus drivers and change transportation boundaries from a 2.5 mile radius to a 5 mile radius.
The change means many students who now take the bus from home to school will have to find another form of transportation.
The layoffs will save the district $1.3 million, but many are outraged by the cuts and are worried about student safety and attendance issues.
The layoffs take affect June 30th. Employees involved will be put on a 39 month re-employment list in case another position becomes available.
