Carmela Paz says her one-year-old nephew, Daniel Salazar, was at her house near Pixley celebrating Easter Sunday. Kids were playing in the front yard, some of them including Danny, who was visiting from Orosi, got out of the gate that was closed but not locked. The toddler was hit by a car and killed on impact.
Paz said she wants the driver caught, becuase he took off and shouldn't have. The Highway Patrol agrees, saying this could have been a tragic accident. "But because he failed to stop, it kind of elevates the entire incident and theres a possibility there may have been some alcohol. So again, this icreases the chances of this turning into something very, very bad," said Scott Harris, a Spokesman with the CHP.
The suspect is identified as 21-year-old Eduardo Morales, who was driving an older model, tan, Chevy Impala.
"The officer actually ended up talking with his family and they haven't seen him since the accident, he hasn't shown up for work. So, we're looking for him," said Harris.
Paz says Danny was a happy and beautiful boy.
