Fresno Police are investigating what led a man to shoot his wife and then turn the gun on himself.
It happened around 11 p.m. Saturday near Escalon and Benedict.
When officers arrived at the scene they found a male and female lying in the road each with a single gunshot wound. Investigators determined that the two were husband and wife, they have identified the husband as 57-year-old Paul Wayne Motley.
Detectives say Motley's wife had recently filed for divorce and the couple has been separated since January of this year. He confronted her about the divorce as she parked her car Saturday night. He then proceeded to shoot her and then himself.
Paul Motley was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center and is listed in critical condition.
