An a dirt road not far up the hill from Auberry, there isn't much to be heard, other than a gentle breeze, a lot of birds, and a fella named Bill.
"Anyway I ended up having 29 of them that I resurrected, you might say."
Bill Paloutzian is a windmill man.
"And I still have 20 on the property that we need to build stands for and put together."
On this day in early April, Bill and his crew are erecting windmill number 30. On top of an old building, 50-feet off the ground.
"Its supposed to fit, it's 51 1/8 inches this way and the legs wait a minute, what do you mean supposed to?"
Bill Paloutzian didn't start out as a windmill fanatic. No, he was an antique tractor kind of guy. That is, until he bumped into a windmill one day and look what happened.
"That's the first windmill that I got, that's the one that was pushed over."
Bill Paloutzian collects a lot of stuff. Old tractors, for instance. Old tools and old barns. Lots of interesting things.
"This is made from my father-in-law's old fence."
But windmills of all sizes and types from all over the world are his passion.
