Sheriff John Anderson announced Tuesday a burglary interrupted in Eastern Madera County this past weekend exposed a career criminal whose pension for stealing metal dates back at least three years.
Deputies took 37-year old Sean Michael Driscoll of Coarsegold into custody Saturday night for grand theft, after he was caught pilfering metal from private property located off CA-41 in Coarsegold.
He’s accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of heavy machinery, equipment and tools, and squirreling away his stash in various locations in Coarsegold.
Mountain Deputies have also discovered that a good chunk of what Driscoll stole, he purportedly scrapped at a recycling plant in Fresno. Boxes of receipts show he was selling the metal roughly twice a week, raking in anywhere between $4,000 and $6,000 a month.
Deputies are still compiling lists of stolen property Driscoll managed to amass over the years.
Just this morning, one of Driscoll’s victims had to use his pick-up truck to haul away at least 9 truck-loads of his own property.
In addition to the stolen property, deputies also seized thousands of dollars in cash, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Deputies believe at least 10 grand theft cases have been cleared with this one arrest.
Sean Driscoll, who is on probation, remains jailed without bail.
Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Detective Neil Cuthbert at 559-642-3201, refer to case #14-1523.
