There are plenty of fun things to do in the valley this weekend, including a walk, a run and a couple of birthday parties. We've rounded them all up in this week's High Five.
-The Discovery Center is throwing a big bash this weekend. It will be a day of entertainment, activities and science to celebrate its 60th birthday. It's this Saturday from 10am-4pm. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for kids.
-You also have the chance to help end type-1 diabetes. The Annual JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is Saturday at Woodward Park. Registration starts at 8am. The 5k walk starts at 9am. Type 1 diabetes is a disease that affects millions of people. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle.
- In Merced, there's the Race to the Kiddieland Train. It's Saturday at the Applegate Park Merced. There are three races:
-a kids one mile at 8:30, which is $10 day of
-and a two mile walk/run and a five mile run at 9am, which is $15.
Kiwanis Project Eliminate will use proceeds for neo-natal tetanus shots, high school scholarships, and to keep park costs down.
-You're invited celebrate the legacy of civil rights leader Cesar Chavez. A march will start at College of the Sequoias in Visalia at 10am. to the Visalia Community Campus. By noon, marchers will join a birthday celebration and community festival until 3:30pm that will include entertainment, music, food, and health and educational booths.
-A timeless Shakespeare classic will take the stage in Merced this weekend. The Merced Shakespearefest presents "Romeo and Juliet." It's taking place at the historic Merced Theater with its spanish façade, so the director decided to give the play a unique Mexican flair. The story of the star crossed lovers shows Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm.
