A young Bullmastiff was injured when the truck he was riding in was hit by a train in West Fresno on Tuesday.

The puppy named Zeus survived the crash and is recovering at a local animal hospital.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m Tuesday morning near Hayes and McKenzie and both the driver and puppy were trapped in the truck. Rescue crews had to cut the top of the cab to free them.

The driver is out of the hospital but not his dog. He remains at Veterinary Emergency Services with a broken leg and may also need to have an injured toe amputated.

The veterinarians are confident Zeus will recover but initial treatment is costing his owners about $12,000, which does not including surgery that the dog will eventually need.

If you would like to help with Zeus' recovery, you may make a contribution at Bank of the Sierra at the information below.
