New App Keeps Neighborhoods Safe

        A new social media site will help Madera police let people know about trouble in their neighborhood.
        The agency is partnering with Nixle.
        Visalia police announced a similar partnership recently.
        Nixle allows police to send alerts via text or email straight to the users phone.
        The service works a lot like twitter, text alerts are limited to 140 characters or less.
        But email messages are unlimited.
        Its meant to help the police department get closer to the community.
