A Fresno native makes it to The Voice.
It's a chance not many get, but Tuesday night a singer with local ties had his moment in the spotlight.
26-year-old Gabi Ramirez who now lives in Pasadena was one of the contestants featured in the blind auditions.
Although he didn't make it past this round, it was an experience he and his family say they're grateful for.
It was the break Gabi Ramirez had been waiting for. Getting a chance to turn a chair on The Voice.
The Fresno native said being up on that stage was intense.
"It was kinda an insane moment, let the nerves get to me too much, not how i'd practiced that song," said Gabi.
Unfortunately, his version of Ed Shiran's A-team didn't strike a chord with the coaches.
His father said no matter the outcome, seeing his son on national television was an amazing experience.
"I'm impressed he's been willing to do whatever it takes to put himself out there," said his dad Jaime.
Gabi didn't grow up singing, he played soccer.
His dad Jaime is the head coach at Fresno Pacific his brother Orlando coaches at Buchanan.
But, in college it became clear a career in music was Gabi's ultimate goal.
Watching him from backstage that day, his family was ready to support him no matter what.
"It was hard afterwards to know how to console him, be there for him, but having the family there made the experience one i know we'll never forget," said Orlando Ramirez, Gabi's brother.
Gabi said even though things didn't turn out how he'd hoped, the chance to hear feedback from such accomplished artists was so valuable.
"You definitely got to take their criticism to heart, you have to you can't disagree with what they're saying cause they've been there too long," said Gabi.
He said he'll take that criticism and use it to improve, and hopefully get a chance to return to The Voice stage, better than ever.
In the meantime, his family is behind him, 110%.
"I know he's in a tough industry, my hats off to him and i hope he makes it," said his dad Jaime.
