From Hero to Crime Victim

From hero, to crime victim.  Thursday night CBS47 showed the heroic deeds of Ronnie Watts, a City of Fresno utility worker.  He risked his own life to pull a man from a burning building.

It's been an eventful two days for Watts.  Thursday he was the good samaritan who pulled an elderly man from his burning home.  Friday, he walked outside his apartment and realized he was a victim of car theft.

“I looked over and I noticed I didn't see the hood or nose of my car sticking out in front of the Jeep, and I knew right then,” said Watts.

He says his 1993 red Honda Civic must have been taken sometime overnight.  He had it for 15 years and it's always parked next to his Jeep in his Clovis apartment complex.  Watts is now trying to make sense of this wild ride he's been on.

“My boss, a good guy, was telling me yesterday, the Lord's going to reward you… I woke up this morning, and called him and said, ‘yeah, you were right, He came and stole my car last night,’” said Watts.

He says he's deeply concerned about the man he rescued on Thursday.  Watts still doesn't even know the victim’s name, but the Fresno Fire Department says the victim remains in critical condition.  Meanwhile, Watts is processing his emotions.

“[I] actually had a lot of stress I think.  It was a little more shock than I thought it was,” said Watts.

He does not have full coverage insurance, only the bare minimum liability coverage.

Watts did not contact CBS47 about his car being stolen, a concerned co-worker who saw our story Thursday called to share the bad luck.  If you have any idea on how to help Watts, call us at 559-225-1133 or email newsdesk@cbs47.tv
