But the Special Olympics for basketball kicked off Friday in Fresno.
One local school has hosted the games for more than a decade
Students from across Fresno County met at Hoover High School as they hosted their annual Special Olympics.
Around 200 athletes from 10 high schools participted.
"It feels good, I put heart into my team," said Anthony Rangel a Special Olympics athlete.
There are 17 teams total, all hoping to make it to the regionals.
They could participate eventually at World Games in 2015 in Los Angeles.
Hoover High School has hosted the games since 1990.
