A tragic accident claims the lives of a young mother and her four
children.
It happened Saturday night around 7:00 p.m. at the Fresno and Kings County
line.
According to CHP a woman driving a Nissan Quest minivan ran a stop sign at 60
MPH and collided with a Ford Expedition at Marks and Excelsior.
The family's SUV burst into flames.
Officers say the father of the children was in another vehicle following them
about a quarter of a mile away.
He saw the fire.
According to officers, the distraught father tried to pull his family out of
the burning SUV.
"The parties were unable to get out of the vehicle. It appears that the driver attempted to get out but didn't make it," said CHP
Captain Dave Paris.
The unidentified mother was a 29-year-old.
Her children, a two and 3-year-old boy,
along with a six and 11-year-old girl all died at the scene.
The woman driving the minivan was airlifted for
treatment.
The father was treated for severe
burns.
The young family from the Riverdale area were
leaving a birthday party.
