In Fresno's Tower District, the hunt is on for a coyote.
The animal has been visiting the area for about a month.
It has a collar around its neck. So far, the coyote has not caused any problems.
But some neighbors are nervous to have it near their homes, pets, and children.
The coyote has been spotted in a neighborhood near Wishon and Pine. And seems to stay south of McKinley and north of Olive.
We spotted the coyote wandering through the neighborhood.
The urban coyote has its own collar.
No one knows how it got here. But neighbors have been tracking it for the last month or so.
Thea Simon has seen the coyote when she's walking her dog.
"She follows us in the morning, follows us at night," Simon said.
At first Thea was alarmed. But she says the coyote doesn't go after the neighborhood animals.
"Up the street here they have a lot of cats. And at night when we're walking you'll see her like weave in and out of the cats. The cats look at her. She looks at the cats. Eh. It's nothing," Simon said.
Neighbors have snapped pictures as the coyote wanders from yard to yard. Even stopping to say hello to dogs out for a walk.
Neighbors have nick named her Tower Coyote - or T.C.
"He is a very, very beautiful animal although he is semi-tame which is what we're concerned about," said Tower neighbor Ray Vargas.
The Department of Fish and Wildlife thinks the coyote was someone's attempt at a pet.
"Occasionally people run into small coyotes out in the field or in the woods when they're out, and they do think they're good pets to scoop up and take home. But they do eventually break out and it causes a bunch of trouble," said Dan Fidler with Fish and Wildlife.
Fish and Wildlife will try to trap T.C. with a net, catch pole or possibly a tranquilizer dart. And relocate him or her to a more suitable environment.
"Right now we are going to look for some kind of placement option. Once we get it we'll evaluate it and make sure its healthy and doesn't have any odd diseases or anything and then we'll look for some kind of zoo or facility that can take it and keep it as a captive animal.
Many of the neighbors do not want the coyote to be killed. They are willing to pay to sponsor it so it can live out the rest of its life at a sanctuary or refuge.
