The celebrations continued Friday after an end to a record breaking dry spell in the Central Valley.  Thursday's storm dumped several inches of much needed snow onto Shaver Lake, bringing a glimpse of hope to struggling businesses.

The snow continued to fall over Shaver Lake Friday afternoon; blanketing the thirsty town.

"It's better late than never," says Tyler Powell.

This year, the snow came later than ever according to Powell.  He helps run Shaver Lake Sports and is hoping for an overdue boost in business this weekend.

"It should be good. Whenever it snows, people come to play in the snow or it brings people up to China Peak so now that we got some fresh snow, hopefully it will bring people to the town," says Powell.

Business is already picking up for snow plowers. After a quiet season, Doug Koerper put all 8 of his employees to work on the roads Friday morning.

Doug Koerper, Doug Koerper construction says, " We're keeping them busy."

Tourists are also staying busy.  A group of women from San Louis Obispo traveled to Shaver Lake Thursday night with fingers crossed.

Christine Nelson says, "We were like is it going to snow, is it not going to snow, and then we woke up this morning to a winter wonderland.

For their husbands, it meant fresh powder at China Peak.

"They were really excited. They went to snowboard, says Nelson."

Instead of hitting the slopes, one group of men were hitting the lake.  Their motivation was a 16 pound trout caught Wednesday.  Fisherman say the catch can be better right after a snowfall.

Dave Woodhams says, "We're at a really high barometer, so the fish are at the surface."

But there is concern the late snowfall will jeopardize drinking water in the small town.  Shave Lake is one of 17 California rural communities in danger.  Wednesday, the state announced it will provide support including alternative water sources.
