Fresno Police are working to identify a man who was found shot and killed on Thursday.
The investigation began when a car crash occured just after 2 pm on the Fulton Street off-ramp of eastbound Highway 180.
Police say a dark blue Dodge Neon slammed into the back of a red GMC pickup after exiting the freeway. The car then bounced into a pole. Officers responded thinking it was just another rear-ender.
"When they made contact with the driver and when they pulled him out they noticed he was bleeding. At that point they realized they had a shooting victim. We believe he was bleeding to death as he was driving and coming off the freeway," said Lt. Herman Silva of the Fresno Police Dept.
The Hispanic man in his 20's and the passenger side of his car had been struck by several bullets.
"Rather bizarre because there were no reports of a shooting in the area," said Lt. Silva.
Since no witnesses have come forward, police are working under the assumption that someone was chasing the victim and shot at him as they were driving on the freeway.
"We're not sure if it was 99 or 180. We're going to be checking the freeways in the near future to determine if we can find any evidence or bullet casings or anything like that," said Lt. Silva.
The man driving the pickup suffered minor injuries.
