Local lawmakers were in Washington D.C. to hear the president's speech in person Tuesday night.
While some were pleased with with much of what they heard, others were not, saying the President's remarks didn't set a cooperative tone for the months to come.
The address was the President's opportunity to reach out to congress for cooperation and to talk to a national audience increasingly skeptical of his leadership.
The buzzword of the night was opportunity and a vow by the president to make this a year of action and his promise to bypass congress if necessary and act alone to achieve his goals.Other themes included economic inequality, raising the minimum wage, job growth and the Affordable Care act.
