It's a snapshot of the local homeless population.

The Census fanned out across the city of Fresno and Fresno county Tuesday.
The goal is to find appropriate services and eventually end homelessness
altogether.

CBS47's Lemor Abrams is live at the Millbrook Presbyterian
Church where volunteers are gathered.

Volunteers met at a the Millbrook Presbyterian Church...

Prepared to hand out hygiene kits...

And spread out across thirty areas in  the City of Fresno and Fresno
County to conduct a survey on the homeless.

"The survey is ranked on a vulnerability index...," said Jody Ketcheside who helps get organize the volunteers.

They estimate the highest concentration of homeless is in Downtown Fresno, sleeping in shelters.

That's where Lonzy Armstrong has been for the last three years...and credits the surveys for helping him find resources.

"This is a very good thing they doing with this crew coming so we can get the help that we need," said Armstrong.

Fresno offers a number of services for the homeless and the Poverello House is one of
them.

"When you go out look at different streets ...Tulare, Ventura... want to make sure you're coming up with what you need - that's what these
surveys are...," said Cruz Avila, Executive Director of the Poverello House.

Volunteers will continue to conduct surveys until Thursday.

It usually takes two to three months to compile the data.
