A riot broke out Tuesday morning at Indian tribal headquarters for Chukchansi, not at the casino.

The violence happened at the Indian tribal council offices and not at the casino. It’s a result of infighting between tribal owners.

About 40 tribal members were involved in the riot, armed with knives and sticks. One person was stabbed and anther suffered head trauma.

Because of the violence, local sheriff’s department and the California Highway Patrol set up a blockade on Road 17, which means about 500 families living in the Indian Lake community can’t get in or out. These are private citizens and not members of the tribe.

The violence is starting to affect the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino.

On Monday, tribal members, who are employees at the casino, were sent home with pay for safety reasons. They were sent home indefinitely because of the threat of violence.

The hotel is no longer taking reservations until further notice and patrons at the casino are only allowed to use certain entrances.
