A local navy sailor met his newborn son for the first time on Wednesday. Jeremy Farris flew into Fresno Yosemite International Airport after spending the last six months out to sea aboard a submarine.
The 26-year old is originally from Hanford and now has a home in Lemoore.
As Jeremy Farris walked down the hallway of the airport terminal, his 3-year old princess, Isabel, eagerly stood by. His queen, Sarah, and their new little prince, Lukas, waited in the wings as well.
Then, the reunion they had waited six months to share finally took place. It featured a huge hug for daddy's little girl and a soft kiss for his 2-month old boy. All of which brought tears of joy to Mrs. Farris.
"It's really good to be home with my family. As you can see I missed out on a couple major events," said Jeremy Farris.
Jeremy says being on a submarine really limited his ability to communicate with the outside world.
"I went about 2 or 3 months without an email," said Jeremy Farris.
In fact, he didn't even find out Lukas was born until four days after it happened. However, he was able to view a few photos of him.
"But pictures don't really amount to this," said Jeremy Farris.
Sarah expressed what it means to have her husband home.
"It's amazing. I feel whole again," said Sarah Farris.
Juggling two children on her own was difficult, but Sarah is not complaining.
"It's what you've got to do. When you're a Navy wife you do what you have to do to get through it and support him as much as possible," said Sarah Farris.
Farris will get to spend about a week at home then it's back to Bremerton, Washington to resume his naval duties.
Until then, the family plans to spend a lot of relaxing time together. When Jeremy was asked what activities he had plan, he had this to say.
"Probably changing a lot of diapers," said Jeremy Farris.
