Carjacking Crash

A demolished car marks the aftermath of a high speed pursuit involving a couple of carjacking suspects.  The stolen Cadillac was missing several of its tires and rims.  A half dozen Fresno Police officers surrounded it on the westbound Highway 180 connector to southbound Highway 99 just after 5:00 Friday evening.

One of the suspected auto thieves could be seen laid up in an ambulance.  The other was bloodied and battered.  Paramedics hauled him away on a gurney with his wrists handcuffed to the rail.

Police say it started around 3:45 p.m. with an armed man forcing a woman out of her Cadillac near a Laundromat at First and McKinley.

Shortly thereafter, police spotted the stolen silver car near Highway 41 and McKinley.  Officers tried pulling it over, but the driver took off.  He accelerated to high speeds, putting other drivers at risk.

The suspect jumped on 180 West to try and lose police, but the curve of the off-ramp proved to be much to handle as he lost control and spun out on his own.  Right into the hands of arresting officers.

Investigators searched a hillside near 41 and McKinley in evening after learning that the suspect may have thrown a weapon out the window there, but police never found anything.
