A man is in custody on Monday accused of setting a historic church in downtown Fresno on fire.
Fifty two year old Craig Gaut was reportedly seen running away from the fire but officers stopped him nearby.
The fire was spotted early Sunday morning at the Power House Institutional Church of God in Christ. The church sits on N Street and Calaveras.
The two alarm fire burned near the top of the three story building.
"It seems to be a pretty big damage to the front of our church. It's a historical building so we know the damage is going to be up there," said Barton Lamont Perry, a church elder.
Church members held services Sunday morning despite the fire.
Gaut now faces felony arson charges.
