Fresno mayor Ashley Swearengin has a new parking plan for the downtown area.
Under the plan there would be two types of passes, one for business and the other for residential.
The program could be up and running within a couple of months. The new parking initiatives are expected to make things easier and to attract business to the area.
"It's happening as a result of the city putting a stake in the ground and saying we are not willing to let the better part of a third of our city lay and waste any longer," says Swearengin.
This weekend the city will be offering free downtown parking at meters and garages to encourage more shoppers to visit the area.
