There is a disturbing case of animal abuse in Kern County.
36-year-old Jason Wilmert of Oildale is accused of killing cats and eating them.
Neighbors say Jason Wilmert kept to himself and acted strangely. They say would set fires in his backyard and cook strange smelling meat.
Neighbor Steve Poe said, "I heard he was using his house pets as snacks, which is kind of disturbing. You would have never guessed anything like that. I saw him buy a case of beer, so if he can afford a case of Natural Lite, you can get some Top Ramen."
Another neighbor reportedly saw Wilmert skinning a live cat.
Wilmert is facing charges of cruelty to animals and using a pet as food.
If convicted, Wilmert could get up to six months in jail.
