Local Tea Party members are tying to knock the high speed rail plan off its tracks.
A meeting was held in Fresno over the weekend to discuss the project.
Their message is simple: California can not afford the $98 billion high speed rail project.
Many think the project will be more destructive than constructive.
Steve Brandau with the Central Valley Tea Party said, "It's dramatically different from what Californians voted for in 2008. The project as it stands now is about 3 times the price and they haven't even put a shovel in the ground. We don't trust them to be able to continue this project in a fiscal responsible way."
Construction on the first phase of the high speed rail system is scheduled to begin this fall.
