Investigators are now going on 48 hours of breaking down this horrific murder and torture mystery.
And neighbors who have been eye witness to it all... are speaking out tonight.
CBS 47's Lemor Abrams continues our team coverage... live from Fresno Police Headquarters.
“The scene on
“I don't know if it’s true,” said Bernice Ramirez who lives down the street.
The details unfolded like a horror movie... but the facts were right in front of their face.
“It’s really scary,” she said.
The smell of decay...so strong, neighbors plugged their nose...as police pulled out the body of a man in his 20s.
He'd been buried in a basement-inside the home, even shocking neighbors used to shootings and gang violence.
“Nothing like this ever happened out here,” said a man who didn’t want to show his face on camera.
The coroner arrived hours after a 35-year old woman told police she had been lured inside the house by a woman, then tied to a chair, raped and burned with chemicals... for a week...before somehow escaping.
“I don't like it because my kids go to school down the street. They're supposed to be safe,” he said.
He tells me a mother, grandmother and a few kids lived at the house... their toys left outside...but they were reportedly taken to child protective services.
And he didn't say much about this pair, parolees with suspected gang ties, accused of murder, mayhem, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
“I wouldn't say that this is the complete image of our community,” said Ivan Paz.
Despite today's horrific discovery , Ivan Paz, the neighborhood youth leader...believes he's making progress in helping to clean up the neighborhood.
“Well first of all, I don't know who that family was, they lived here a few months ago, but I would say the people living here for a while are pretty united,” said Paz.
Yet as crime scene investigators dug through trash, rolled out carpets, and inspected every inch for more clues... some decided enough is enough.
“I want nothing to do with it. I just want to move out of this area already,” said Ramirez.
