In Porterville, a one-year-old boy is in the hospital after he was accidentally hit by a truck.
The boy is in critical but stable condition with a fractured scull.
Two other people were hit, including a 9-year-old child. They suffered only minor injuries.
Police believe the truck may have been unsafe to drive, which may have led to the accident.
At this point, the driver isn't facing any charges and while police believe it was just an accident, investigators say some unsafe vehicle modifications may have caused it.
The accident happened at the Shady Lane trailer park in Porterville when 74-year-old Ramon Romero accidentally backed into the victims.
Sgt. Dominic Barteau with the Porterville Police Department said, "When the vehicle was started, the indicator on the transmission said the vehicle was in park, however, the vehicle was engaged in reverse."
The impact fractured a one-year-old boy's skull and caused his brain to swell, leaving him in critical but stable condition.
An adult and a 9-year-old walked away with only scratches.
Sgt. Barteau says the truck was old and some shoddy work made it unsafe to drive. "There were some modifications made to the accelerator as well as the transmission which is what caused this," said Barteau.
No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
