Investigators say it all started around seven this evening when a Parlier police officer tried to stop a car near Zediker and Dinuba in Parlier. Police say the driver fled, taking police on a chase that eventually took them to the Tulare and Kings County line.
"Here the officers followed that car into the dark dirt field and suddenly they were taking on fire," said Parlier Police Chief David Cerda.
Police returned fire and at some point investigators say a passenger jumped out of the vehicle. He was later arrested and airlifted toCommunity Regional Medical Center with a gun shot wound to the upper body. Meanwhile the car continued through the dirt field crossing into Kings County where it was ultimately stopped and the driver was arrested. Police say he was also shot but suffered only minor injuries.
Parlier police say the driver had an extensive criminal history and they are not ruling out others being in the car. No police officers were injured during the chase and the two Parlier police officers who opened fire will be placed on paid administrative leave.
