Families who lost everything in a Clovis apartment fire last month are getting a second chance.
What started as a small donation drive by Clovis police became something much larger.
On Thursday, officers collected all kinds of household items to help the families affected by the Scottsmen apartment fire.
Chuck Wages with the Clovis Police Department said, "It started out as just a small donation drive for the shift that I worked on and through talking to people it just grew and grew and got bigger and bigger."
Fire victim Ashley Francis said, "It makes me want to cry, the fact that people came together for people they don't even know... it is just amazing."
The collections will continue for the 40 residents displaced by the fire until August 11th.
Donations can be dropped off at the Scottsmen Apartments on Gettysburg and Willow in Clovis. They are asking for furniture, clothes and household goods that are in good condition.
Monetary donations are also requested. Make checks payable to the Clovis Police Foundation and mail or dropped off at the Clovis Police Department.
Online donations can also be made via credit card or PayPal using the related link.
