People in Madera are still picking up th pieces after a day of flames and wreckage.
Two fires burned within two hours of each other.
One on Ellis near highway 99.
The other on Riverside near the dry Madera river.
Flames torched a home by the river, where two families lived side by side. They escaped with the help of Madera Police.
And the neighborhood market was next. Then the bakery that's been around for a decade.
Flames took out part of the businesses.
Firefighters say there have been four arson fires in the last 45 days in the river.
It's unclear if they're related.
The focus now for firefighters, reminded folks to clear brush.
"The fire had fuel bed from the river up to the back of the structures," said Matthew Watson with Madera County Cal Fire.
But there was a sweet spot for firefighters.
Larry Wolford handed out ice cream and water to his hard working friends in the field.
It's a tradition for this retired firefighter.
"I was a firefighter for seventeen and a half years...I'm giving back by feeding them, said Larry Wolford who hydrates firefighters.
A firefighter cut his hand while fighting the flames, and had five stitches.
No other injuries were reported.
