New Fresno State President, Joseph Castro is settling in at the university. He has big shoes to fill after former 22-year president, John Welty. Castro is starting by making a social media connection.
"Having that chance to at least connect through twitter has been you know helpful and it's something that I want to continue to use in all the right ways," said Fresno State President, Joseph Castro.
Castro has more than 700 followers on Twitter. He views social media as a key way to stay plugged in. Somewhat of a departure from his predecessor.
"I probably use technology a little different than he did and I think that that's hopefully gonna be helpful to people," said Castro.
Castro said if you follow him on twitter, he'll follow you right back.
I think often they see presidents and other administrators as kind of being in an ivory tower and that will not be the perception for President Castro," said Paul Oliaro, Fresno State Vice President for Student Affairs.
Student Body President, Moses Menchaca had the opportunity to sit down with Castro for lunch. He said it's exciting to see how engaged Castro is with students.
"It really comforts me to know that he's gonna be doing his best for the students and I'm looking forward to the rest of the year," said Menchaca.
