It's the end of an era at Fresno State.
Doctor John Welty wrapped up his final day as university president Wednesday afternoon.
Welty served as president for 22 years, the longest tenure in the history of the university.
Dr. Welty is credited with enhancing Fresno State's academic programs and helping to construct $425 million worth of new facilities.
The 69-year old plans to move to Palm Springs with his wife.
Welty's successor, Doctor Joseph Castro, a Hanford native, takes over presidential duties on Thursday.
