Nathan Romo has been blind since birth and aspires to be a chef. Heartless thieves broke into his apartment a little over a week ago and stole special cookware Nathan desperately needs to attend culinary school. He is speechless after the community helps out in a big way.
"To have this donated to me, I just don't have the words," said Nathan.
The group helped by giving him a knife set to help him on his career path and they also hosted a benefit luncheon at the Elbow Room in support.
Chef, Roy Harland from the Elbow Room treated Nathan to a special culinary lesson.
"I think it's important to just give him the confidence," said Harland.
After we first broadcast Nathan's story, donations poured in. He has since received monetary contributions, an i-Pad and a group who believes in his potential.
"I saw this gentleman and it just tugged on my heart that he got all of this equipment, been spending all of these years trying to learn to cook and somebody came into his apartment and stole it," said donor, Thomas Fillmore.
While some of Nathan's precious cookware is still missing, he looks forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with Chef Roy once again.
"He's gonna make whatever he wants, with Roy and we'll have him be our celebrity chef for the day," said the Elbow Room Owner, Michael Shirinian.
Nathan's motivated by the overwhelming support to help make his dream a reality.
"I was not asking for anything or expecting anything from your initial story, but I am grateful that this is happening in my life right now," said Nathan.
The group is also planning to come together to help put Nathan through culinary school.
