Eight people in Fresno's code enforcement received layoff notices.
The workers got the notices late last week and earlier this week.
Code enforcement officers patrol neighborhoods and other locations to make sure that city standards are enforced. Violations include: abandoned vehicles, illegal dumping, open vacant structures, tall weeds, discarded tires, etc.
Fresno City Councilman Sal Quintero says the new round of cuts will take a toll on the city. "Not being able to make property owners come into compliance... that hurts and area and brings it down even more, so by cutting these positions, it makes matters worse," said Quintero.
Quintero is working to get some of those positions reinstated.
