Fear is a word you hear a lot near Santa Clara and E Street and like the trash piles it shows no signs of receding.
"You could be walking down the city street and anything could happen at anytime," said resident Patrick Brown.
According to Fresno Police these homeless encampments have become a hotbed for violent crime. Police say in just the past six months there have been five shootings leaving one dead and another paralyzed.
"Many of these people that are working out of this area, not all of them are homeless. Some of them are coming here just for the purpose of conducting criminal activity," said Sgt. Greg Noll with the Fresno Police Department.
