The Fresno County Sheriff's Department spent the morning clearing a 66-acre marijuana farm on Zediker Avenue in Sanger.
Fresno County Sheriff Margret Mims says it's the department's largest marijuana bust ever.
Sheriff Mims did not know the exact number of many plants in total because the plants are hidden between rows of crops like corn and tomatoes.
The sheriff's department has been following this grow site for weeks, originally spotted from the air.
They worked with the DEA to serve a federal search warrant and found 21 workers managing the site. Five workers have been arrested.
Sheriff Mims says the thousands upon thousands of plants were ripped out, not yet ready to harvest.
Sheriff Mims said, "In Fresno County, just on the Valley floor, we know there are in excess of over 200 of these multi-acre grows, so we're not through. So far, the largest grow we've had was 54-acres, this eclipses that and now we have a 66-acre grow and we believe there's even larger ones out there that we're going to be addressing."
Investigators say there is an abandoned home on the property and that it appears some of the workers were living in the fields.
There were more than 30 agents at the scene Tuesday morning from federal, state and local levels trying to eliminate the grow site.
