Thousands of people across the country are waiting for a new kidney, and for most, it will take months or even years before they find a match.
But for one Valley woman, the match she need was closer than she thought.
Brandon Kelley is going to give her girlfriend, Lindsey Miller, a once in a lifetime gift.
Lindsey thought she might be on dialysis the rest of her life; the donor list was long and the odds stacked against her.
The couple met two years ago and knew they were a good match, but neither figured they would be a donor match. "Statistically speaking, one person in this whole town Los Banos would be a match for me and it ended up being him," said Lindsey.
On Friday, both will go under the knife, a day they say couldn't come soon enough.
And while miller looks forward to kicking off the shackles of dialysis, she hopes to raise awareness for others less fortunate. "There is a lot of people who are out there that are on dialysis who are suffering every day to stay alive that need that life saving kidney," said Miller.
