Prison hunger strike under way in California

The California Department of Corrections says 30,000 inmates are on a hunger strike.

The inmates at two thirds of the state's 33 prisons refused meals Monday morning. 

It could be the largest prison protest in state history. 

Inmates at Pelican Bay are leading the protest to get corrections department to stop using solitary confinement as a way to control prison gangs.
