The County Clerk's Office in Fresno was greeted bright and early by a line of anxious couples.

"Glad you're here with us today...we're gonna open a few minutes early," said Fresno County Clerk, Brandi Orth.

This day has been a long time coming for a lot of them.

"We've waiting 15 years to do this for this day.  It's a great day," said Kim Tobin.  She's at the Clerk's Office to get a marriage certificate.

The office said they are ready to handle a large crowd.  They're fully staffed and have volunteers to help with paperwork and perform ceremonies.

"Well we came over the weekend and actually thought of the processes and tried to do the most efficient way to move people through," said Orth.

Couple by couple, they sat in front of computers to fill out forms.
The marriage license is $49 and it's only a 30-minute process from start to finish, but could take longer if there's a line. While some got married on the spot at the clerk's office, others, like Adam and Anthony Cervantes wanted something more intimate.

"We're going to the big red church to get married," said the couple.

At the First Congregational Church in Fresno, the couple said their vows before family and friends.

The couple is all smiles on this special day and like many others is proud to be making history.

"I think although we share a domestic partnership, we'll be able to file our taxes together, you know, be respected under the law just like everybody else," said the Cervantes couple.

The Fresno County Clerk's Office is open from 8:30AM to 5PM.  They said if you're coming in for a marriage license, you need to be there before 4PM.
