Americans all across the country will turn their attention to the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday.  Californians in particular have been anxiously awaiting a potential landmark decision by the justices regarding marriage equality.  It is scheduled to come down at 10 a.m. eastern time.

“Hopefully people realize that everyone deserves equality regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation,” said Alan Martin of Fresno.
“That’s all anyone has ever wanted is just the ability to be treated equally and hopefully that's what the court decides,” said Jason Scott, a gay marriage supporter.

Jason Scott married his partner before Proposition 8 was passed.  The couple now has a 3-month-old son.

“Hopefully we'll get to go down there and cheer on those couples that will have the opportunity to do the same thing we did back in 2008,” said Scott.

“We want the justices to decide based upon the constitution,” said Pastor Jim Franklin of Fresno’s Cornerstone Church.

Pastor Jim Franklin of Fresno’s Cornerstone Church opposes gay marriage.  He says it's not about who is sleeping with who, it's about the peoples’ right to govern themselves.

“The people of California have voted once, twice and the California Supreme Court has upheld our right to do that.  Now are we going to have the Supreme Court take away our rights?  We don't want our rights to be denied,” said Franklin.

Chris Chaparro is on Pastor Franklin's side.

“You know if the judges can come around and overrule the will of the people, then why vote,” said Chris Chaparro of Fresno.

The possible outcomes from the court's ruling include:  Not allowing same-sex marriage in California, allowing it in California along with six other states or making it a fundamental right nationwide.

Attorney’s following this case say if the court removes the ban, gay marriages could begin in California as soon as mid-July.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, supporters of gay marriage will gather at Fresno City Hall no matter which way the ruling goes.  They will either protest or celebrate.
