Carstens Fire grows to 1600 acres

The Carstens Fire in Mariposa County is only 15% contained and has grown to more than 1600 acres.

150 homes have been evacuated but hundreds more are still being threatened.

An evacuation shelter was set up by the Red Cross at the Mariposa Elementary School and 33 people stayed there on the second night, up from 19 the first night.

The shelter offers evacuees a place to sleep, showers and hot meals, as well as medical aid.

There are evacuations for Hites Cove, Jerseydale, Clarks Valley, Triangle Rd. and Scott Rd. as well as Lush Meadows, East West Fall Road at Triangle Rd to Triangle Park Dr, Darrah Rd to North Valley View.

Road closures include Triangle Road at Rt 140, Carlton at Triangle Road, Silva at Triangle Road and Darrah at Triangle Road.

Firefighters say containment is not expected until Monday, June 24th.

The Red Cross shelter will remain open until the evacuation orders are lifted.
