From the air and ground fire crews fight to hold the line. Battling flames fueled by windy conditions and dry brush.
"We are trying to get aggressive and put the fire out but Mother Nature is fighting us a little bit," said Rich Drozen with Cal Fire.
As fire crews built lines to contain the Carstens Fire, flames from the blaze continued to chew through dense brush, threatening one hundred and fifty homes and leaving countless homeowners no choice but to leave.
"The sheriff pulled up and says time to evacuate so we loaded up the horses and family and left," said resident Jack Ross.
Blackened hills littered the landscape as fresh crews moved in to try and protect homes in the fires path.
“We are going to try and do as much containment as we can and try and close the southern end of the fire so it doesn't move into more structures and into some of the other communities," said Drozen.
