The Green Cart Initiative launched in West Fresno.
The program is bringing fresh produce to under-served areas, the first store to agree to sell fruits and vegetables is Country Mart on Fig and North.
West Fresno has been identified as a "food desert" because most of its residents have a hard time getting healthy food.
"The closest real grocery store is over five miles away," says Sabrina Kelley from Habitat for Humanity "and if you go by bus, which a lot of our mothers in this neighborhood take the bus there, it's an hour and a half by bus, so by the time you get your food back, it's no good."
The program is being funded by Kaiser and OK Produce is supplying fresh fruits and veggies for three weeks.
Organizers hope to expand to other corner stores in the future.
