A project years in the making is just about finished. The Kings County SPCA is putting the final touches on its brand new animal shelter.

The new facility is on the outskirts of Lemoore and will officially open on Saturday.

Lemoore resident and animal lover, Mack Hase, left 10 acres to the SPCA of Kings County when he passed away in 2008.  He had a vision and today that vision is taking shape.

For the past 60 years, an old building in Hanford had been the SPCA's home and officials say they're ready for a fresh start.

The new shelter is different than most... with a walking trail for dogs, a separate house for cats, and even an on-site home for the shelter's director. It also has another unique feature... it's a no kill shelter. "We have been no kill since we began in the 60's and we will stay no kill," said Cynthia Brewer, vice president of the Kings County SPCA.

Officials plan to build a dog park and an agility course, making life for these animals better while they wait for a new home.

The grand opening for the shelter takes place Saturday, June 1st and there will be animal activities, food, raffle prizes.
