Fresno Churches are preparing to send support to Oklahoma in a big way.
After massive twisters damaged parts of Oklahoma, Southern Baptist Relief Ministriesprepare to send support. Tornadoes, like the ones recently experienced, take out cell phone towers.
Without communications, nobody knows what anybody is doing," said Don Hargis, coordinator of the Southern Baptist Relief Ministries.
A Fresno team will take a portable communications center to tornado ravaged areas and they'll work to restore what's necessary.
"Both physical and spiritual relief to those...and emotional relief to those who have been affected," said Hargis.
Members of the local community know property can be replaced, but human life can't.
"I have nine grandchildren and a few greats, I definitely am sorry for them," said Fresno resident, Pat Holm.
Pastor Jim Franklin at Cornerstone Church in Fresno has a mother and sister, along with other relatives living just two hours from where the tornado touched down.
"Obviously very concerned when you hear of something like that. They're doing alright, they're right outside of that," said Pastor Franklin.
Cornerstone Church and others like West McKinley Church in Fresno are helping send relief through prayer and also through organizations they sponsor like Convoy of Hope. It's a faith based non-profit group.
"They're a wonderful organization. Already on the ground, already got three semi-trucks there with food, water and supplies," said Brad Grams, Senior Pastor at West McKinley Church.
Congregation members we spoke with say families in Oklahoma will continue to be part of their prayers.
