"This is the biggest fire in this area that I've seen and I've been here twenty years," said resident Kate Craig.
Those living near the fire nervously watched as flames approached their backyards. According to California Fire one home was destroyed and another forty remain threatened.
"The fire was wind and terrain driven and with the breeze it's just harder for us to get control of a fire," said California Fire Battalion Chief Glenda Leonard.
About twenty firefighters remain on scene to battle the blaze through the night, counting on cooler conditions to help them contain more of the fire. Meanwhile, those who saw the flames come with in yards of their home are partially crediting defensible space with helping keep them safe.
"It takes a lot of work to keep your property mowed and weed wacked, we have about three acres and we keep all mowed down and we feel safer that way," said resident CJ Jones.
