Battle brewing in Yosemite

Congressman Tom McClintock is challenging National Parks Service recommendations to remove tourist amenities from Yosemite.

The park service has produced a plan which calls for the elimination of raft rentals, an ice rink and other tourist amenities in the park.

The plan has one congressman, whose district includes Yosemite, outraged.

Congressman Tom McClintock of Roseville said, "Yosemite was set aside 150 years ago by legislation signed by Abraham Lincoln for public use, resort and recreation for all times. It was not supposed to be a private preserve for environmentalists and the National Parks Service."

Some say the amenities actually distract from the beauty of the Yosemite and the ability to enjoy it.

A final decision on removing those amenities is expected in July.
