Head Barista Kevin Lindholm pours a fancy latte at Iron Bird Café on Monday morning, the first day of the coffee shop’s reopening.  Ann Liao is the new owner.

“Our coffee is artisan coffee.  Everything is hand-packed and hand-tapped,” said Liao, who’s a success story herself.  Born in Taiwan, Liao's only been in Fresno for 13 years, but she already owns three Teazer World Tea Markets.  She wants the coffee shop to do just as well.

“I love Fresno, what can I say?  We have nurturing soil,” said Liao.

Customer, Steve Skibbie, works and lives in downtown Fresno.  He hopes this time, Iron Bird Cafe is here to stay.

“It's tough, it's tough.  I think the economy is tough but I think there's momentum.  Fresno is gaining momentum,” said Skibbie.

Customers like L.J. Mariano say the diverse food menu and upbeat ambiance make this a place he'll come back to.

“I love it.  It's so good,” said Mariano.

Liao admits turning around a once failed business is a challenge, but she believes in downtown and is willing to take the risk.

“People say if you can make it in Fresno you can make it anywhere,” said Liao.

Just down the road at the Fulton Mall, another coffee shop, Fresno Brewing, also just opened.  Two more businesses are coming soon: Twee 2 and a bike repair store.
