It's been held up by reinforcements for years, but on Monday, demolition began on the old Droge Building in downtown Fresno.
The building, located on Van Ness and Inyo, across the street from the spiral parking garage, dates back to the 1920s.
The 91-year-old building is coming down to make way for a new Fresno Housing Authority development.
The Droge Building once housed local government programs during the Great Depression but has been an eyesore for years.
Now it's being cleared to make way for a 4-story apartment and commercial building for young professionals.
The $11 million project will include 45 studio, one and two bedroom apartments.
The building has yet to be named and the project should be complete by next summer.
